Overview

Snow Joe + Sun Joe, a lawn and garden tools manufacturer dedicated to the
design and development of high-quality, yet affordable, lawn and garden
equipment, is growing its creative department! We are looking for a talented
Graphic + Industrial designer with strong production skills to help support our
creative team. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, performs at a high level, and
is capable of juggling multiple assignments with strong project and time
management skills.

Key Duties + Responsibilities

INDUSTRIAL DESIGN AND PRODUCT MODIFICATION

• Generate original concepts + ideations for new products that fit the
  company's product line based on market opportunity and customer needs.
  Design the new products' form, appearance and function through hand
  sketch/sketch program (Autodesk Sketchbook), 3d modeling and
  rendering program (Rhinoceros, Keyshot). Work with manufacturing
  factories and facilities on detailed mechanisms and internal structures
  to realize the concept. Recommend appropriate manufacturing method(s)
  for the products/concepts. Review and recommend manufacturing
  materials.
• Review and test prototypes and samples provided by manufacturing
  factories on new product development and optimization of existing
  products. Assign changes to the design to achieve optimal functionality,
  according to the performance of the sample.
• Review new design concepts/new product proposals by manufacturing
  factories. Explore possible improvements regarding function, usability and
  ergonomics. Identify and recommend opportunities for customizing the
  product by applying company's information (logo/logotype) on the product
  or tooling.
• Assign color scheme and material texture using 3d rendering program
  (Keyshot) and apply to products to achieve the optimal appearance and
  form that fit within the company's style and branding, and in consideration
  of various factors like the cost, target price, manufacturing method,
  painting/texture durability.
• Recommend and make changes to product tooling using 3d modeling
  program (Rhinoceros) to endow the products with unique and exclusive
  attributes such as form/shape/design, thereby differentiating
  the company's products from competitors' in both style, appearance and
  function.
• Work with manufacturing factories to solve/resolve any problems or issue
  created during shipping and based on end users' feedback and reviews.
  Propose possible solutions/changes to resolve the problem(s). Work with
  manufacturing factories to test and evaluate each solution to select the
  optimal one.

PACKAGE + DISPLAY DESIGN

• Generate original concepts + ideations for certain products' package form,
  such as blister pack, plastic wrap, or cardboard, based on the products'
  specific need for display, customer interaction and shipping configuration.
  Test and select material(s), decide appropriate structure, size, and design
  eye-catching graphics . Present rendered images for concepts by 3d
  modeling program (Rhinoceros and Keyshot). Work with manufacturing
  factories to build and produce the samples/prototypes, optimize the
  structure, and confirm the final package form for mass production.
• Develop packaging solutions for exclusive products, collections or kits, as
  required, for retail partners of the company. Propose possible concepts
  regarding to structure, material, form, and graphics by 3d modeling +
  rendering program (Rhinoceros and Keyshot), with consideration of cost,
  size, and shipping configuration. Work with manufacturing factories to test
  and evaluate each concept by samples/prototypes, and decide the optimal
  solution.
• Generate concepts for in-store POP displays of the company's products,
  considering specific requirements on size and quantity. Design the
  structure, functionality, appearance and graphics of the displays, with
  consideration of stability during transportation, ease of in-store assembly,
  as well as eye-catching appearance. Provide guidance to manufacturing
  factories or local display builders during the manufacture of prototypes.
  Review, test samples and confirm the final design and structure for mass
  production.

GRAPHIC DESIGN

• Generate product renderings and hand sketches to showcase the
  features, functionality and selling points by 3d modeling (Rhino, Keyshot)
  for marketing materials, product packaging, POP and POS displays,
  catalogs, hangtags and website.
• Design instruction manuals, packaging, product and warning labels.

Required Skills + Experience

• Minimum of a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in graphic design, industrial
  design or related field, preferably with coursework completed in both
  industrial and graphic design. Masters of Arts degree preferred in graphic
  design, industrial design or related field.
• Must be MAC proficient
• Strong working proficiency and advanced level of skillset with the Adobe
  Creative Cloud (Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe
  InDesign), Rhinoceros 5.0, Keyshot 7, Autodesk Sketchbook,
  Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and Powerpoint)
• Must have solid written and verbal skills, and be comfortable presenting
  design work within team settings.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment.
  Ability to prioritize work to balance multiple projects and deadlines.
  Consumer packaged goods experience required. Experience in the power
  tools/home goods industry a plus.
• Attention to detail with emphasis on accuracy and quality, and a critical
  eye for detail.
